Rakiraki Ramen & Tsukemen | Food Trip

We had lunch at Rakiraki Ramen & Tsukemen in Convoy St. San Diego. It’s been raining all week so we decided to eat some Ramen noodles to keep us warm in cold weather. Rakiraki Ramen & Tsukemen is one of the most popular Ramen noodle houses in San Diego, they have 3 locations around the San Diego area. It was owned by Chef Junya Watanabe and since 2012, it has been recognized by locals and food enthusiasts.

Rakiraki Ramen Ambiance/Location

Rakiraki Ramen

This place is a bit tiny for a busy restaurant yet it creates an inviting feeling. Not too fancy but casual and cozy. A good place to hang out with friends while enjoying good food and flavorful ramen. I won’t recommend it for a business meeting since the tables are so close and always crowded. The best time to beat the crowd is around 11 am when they open. Parking is tight and limited.

Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers

On our previous visit, we tried their sushi. They have few selections but all are great. This time we had the stuffed jalapeno tempura and I consider it as one of the best jalapeno poppers I’ve had. It is breaded and fried, crunchy on the outside with spicy mayo and topped with bonito flakes. The jalapeno is cooked perfectly and crunchy when you bite. The stuffed is a combination of tuna and cream cheese. A bite of it feels like heaven.

Tonkatsu Ramen
Original Tonkatsu Ramen

Rakiraki is famous on their signature ramens. On our first visit, I enjoyed the Black Edition Ramen: Jukusei Fermentation (with natural charcoal).
Don’t let the look deceive you. It is a truly unique flavor that your taste bud will thank you for every zip and bite.
This visit I tried the Original Tonkatsu Ramen with underbelly so I can compare with other restaurants tonkatsu ramen. I consider this one of the best in my list. The egg is perfectly done. The combination of different ingredients compliments that burst the flavor in your mouth. I highly recommend for first timers to try this if you are not fun of spicy or bold flavors.

My husband ordered the Yokohama Shoyu Ramen, a triple thick premium shoyu chicken and pork broth topped with bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, five-spice soy sauce pickled egg, garlic chips, green onions, wakame seaweed and crushed sesame

Rakiraki Ramen Price

Lunch At Rakiraki

Overall this visit we spent $40 for 2 ramens and stuffed jalapeno with no purchase of drinks (water is free). Their price is about the same compared to other ramen places in the area. For me, the price is well worth it based on the quality of their food and excellent service.

Overall, this place is superb. We will definitely come back. Plan accordingly . . . consider time, parking, and long line.
