Fiumicino Airport To Rome | Cheapest and Quickest Way

Train Station Fiumicino Airport

My wife and I recently visited Rome, and we spent two days here before we leave on a cruise trip to Greece. One of our struggles is to get from Fiumicino airport to our hotel in Rome. We flew 11hours from Los Angeles to Fiumicino airport, and from Fiumicino, you still have 33km or 21 miles to travel before you reach the city of Rome. Now, the airport name is Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, they just call it Fiumicino airport because it’s in Fiumicino City.

Now, here are the options on how to get to Rome from Fiumicino Airport.

Fiumicino Airport To Rome | Cheapest and Quickest Way

1. Airport Taxi

These are the most common transportation anywhere in the world at the airport. From Fiumicino, you can ride a taxi that can cost you 45 to 55 euro. Some taxi offers a fixed rate of about 48 to 55 euro but that depends on how many of you in the group. Just make a deal before you leave. The travel time would be about 40 to 50 mins depends on the traffic and the location of your hotel in Rome. The good thing about riding a taxi is it can drop you off right in front of your hotel, so you don’t have to worry about walking and carrying your luggage. You can download the app called myTaxi, that’s the app they used in Italy. Unfortunately, they don’t have Uber or Lyft.

2. Shuttle Pick Up To Rome

The second option is if your hotel has a shuttle pick up, then you can take that route. Most hotels offer a shuttle pick up when you book a room from them. This is good when you have more than four people in your group. If you want to go with this route, ask the hotel if they have an airport pick up before you book from them. Once you confirmed that they have, arrange a pick-up, and they will instruct you where to go when you arrive at Fiumicino airport. They usually have your name waiving at the arrival, so you don’t have to worry. The travel time is about 40 to 50 mins and the cost is about 50 euro.

3. Fiumicino Train

Train to Rome

This are the cheapest and quickest way to get from Fiumicino airport to Rome. There is a terminal right inside the airport and it will take you all the way to the city center in Rome. Riding a train is the main transportation in Italy and it can take you anywhere in Europe. There are two options riding a train going to Rome from Fiumicino, the first one is the regular Trenitalia train, the call it Regionale and the second one is the Leonardo Express. Visit Trenitalia website for more info,

Regular

The regular Trenitalia train will take you to Rome for about 45 mins and it has 9 stops before you reach the city of Rome and the cost is only 8 euro. Tickets are available all over the airport, just look for the kiosk said Trenitalia or store said train tickets sold here. The train leaves every 15 to 20mins. Make sure you know what train stations you getting off so you can just walk or take a bus to your hotel. The train has small luggage storage at the end of every car, but it’s not enough if there is a lot of people.

Leonardo Express

The Leonardo Express is the fastest way to get to Rome. The travel time is only 30mins and non-stop but the price is 14 euro, a little expensive than the regular train. This is the one that we took going to Rome and I recommend this option. You can buy tickets in the kiosk or in any stores inside the airport that said tickets sold here. The luggage storage of this train is bigger than the regular Trenitalia train. From the airport, it will take you to Roma Termini Station and from Roma Termini, just ride a bus going to your hotel.

Pros: The cheapest and quickest way to get from Fiumicino to Rome
Cons: You still have to take a bus and a little bit of walking before you reach your hotel. If you have a lot of luggage, it’s hard to take this route.

Conclusion

Whether you taking a taxi, riding a shuttle or a train, remember that saving money and convenience is important. We suggest that you plan ahead if your traveling alone, with you loved one, or with a big group.
