Cruise Port Information
Cruise ship docks on the Main Dock 1. There are different sites that you may visit near the port. This is one of the ports that you may explore the area on your own and save some money rather than paying for excursion. We felt safe and comfortable exploring on our own. In the Cruise port information, there is a huge swimming pool by the port but unfortunately this was close during our visit. There are churches nearby and the MIlitary Museum (Forte de Sao Bras) is only a 9 minute walk from the port.
Local transportation and taxis are available. Check online for the bus schedule. Just a reminder that on weekends, holidays, and specially Sundays, most of the public transportation are not running. We arrived on Sunday and taxis were easy to find by the port but difficult to find going back. Uber, Grab, or other shared transportation are not available. We walked for more than 8 miles but we enjoyed our time and the weather is perfect.
If you have limitations I highly suggest to take the city train tour (caterpillar train) which brings you around the city for sightseeing. The price is less than 10 Euros (it was 7.50 Euros on our visit) which is a 1 hour tour and you will see different churches, the municipal buildings, market, pineapple plantation and much more.
