My wife and I visited Athens Greece through cruise ship by Holland America. This is our 6th-day cruising and so far we enjoyed every city and places we visited. Athens is the capital of Greece and the heart of the ancient civilization of Greece. Today, the ancient landmarks, places, and buildings are still dominated in the city and millions of tourist are visiting Athens every year just to see this. Let me give you the places you can visit in Athens Greece for 1 day.

Transportation

Hop on Hop off Buses in Athens

Before I give the places we visited, let me give say that we are coming from the cruise port which is Piraeus port. From the port, we bought the city sightseeing tours that you can hop on hop off anytime. The price person for that bus is 18 euros and they have routes in most of the landmarks in Athens. You can also, used a taxi or public transportation which is probably a little bit cheaper.

Maps

Here is a map of the places we visited in Athens for 1 day. We started in Acropolis and walk all day to other landmarks.

Acropolis

Acropolis in Athens

The first place that we visited was the Acropolis of Athens. Acropolis is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and sits at the top of a rocky mountain in the city of Athens and contains the remains of some ancient buildings and architectural artifacts. When we get to Acropolis, you still have to hike a little just to reach the ticketing center. There was a little crowd when we get to the ticketing center and we waited probably 20 mins. When you get to the entrance, that when the crowd and the line goes. I suggest that you come early as possible to beat the crowd.

Cost: 20 euros
Tip: Buy the package so you can visit all the places that I will mention in this blog except the Museum for 30 euros.

Plaka is a nice village in Athens Greece with a narrow street that has restaurants, jewelry stores, gift shops and cafes that run by locals in the area. It’s just 5 mins walk from Olympieion. We just pass by here and took some pictures because it’s so pretty village. We even saw a couple having their prenup photo in this village.
