Our Grand Canyon Trip

Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon

Beautiful, stunning and gorgeous. Those 3 words that I can describe when is visited the Grand Canyon. I can’t imagine how Mother Nature can create such a natural beauty like this.
Clearly, this is one of the places you never want to miss when you are living in United States. A place that is so beautiful that you will want come back again and again. They say there are seven wonders in the world, and one of them is in Arizona. So my wife and I decided to visit this one of the seven wonders in the world, the Grand Canyon.

Wednesday evening we packed our bags and check everything that we need for our trip. At 6pm we drove from San Diego to Yuma, our first stop. After 3 hours of driving, we arrived at the hotel around 9pm. We ate dinner and spend the rest of the night. Thursday morning, we woke up around 5am to hit the road. From Yuma to Grand Canyon, it’s about 6 hours of driving so we decided to stop at Prescott Arizona to have our brunch. Prescott is small city seated at the top of the Yavapai County. As the most people would do is to check their phone and open an application like Yelp or Google to look for a good restaurant with good reviews. So I ask my wife again to find a nice cheap breakfast in her phone. Since its 10am then, we decided to look for a brunch. We found this small restaurant across from the city hall in downtown Prescott called “The Lone Spur Café”.

It was like an old country style restaurant with a buck head all over the wall and several old pictures hanging in the wall from 1800’s that people wearing cowboy boots and hats. While seating inside we ordered our food. Mine was a Denver style omelet and my wife was their house special pancake. It was a good breakfast and the ambiance was also nice too.

It was 11:15am that we headed to Sedona. My wife’s co-worker once told her that Sedona Arizona is another place to visit while you’re in Grand Canyon. Since Sedona is closer from Prescott before Grand Canyon, we decided to visit that city and I’m glad that we did. Sedona is a dessert town that surrounded by red-rock mountains, steep canyon walls and pine forest. I did not read much about the city but my wife told me that there are four places to visit in Sedona and one of them is the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

Sedona
A chapel that seats at the top of the mountain. And from there you can see the whole Yavapai County in Arizona. We arrived in Sedona around 2 o’clock pm. while heading to our next stop “The Chapel of the Holy Cross” we passed by to downtown Sedona which you can see stores, shops and restaurants lining up.

While passing by downtown, we can also see the red rock mountain surrounding around the city. After few turns, curves heading up the road, we arrive at the chapel. We parked at the street because there they’re parking lot is full. About 100 meters walk up the hill, we reached the chapel. In the front of the chapel, you can see the whole city of Sedona.

My Wife bought a souvenir

About 2pm, we head back to our car and start driving. While driving, we saw a sign that said Flagstaff, Arizona. Then we taught why not visit the Meteor Crater, yes, the meteor that hits the earth and it’s in flagstaff Arizona.

Beautiful Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater is nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep. It is an international tourist venue with outdoor observation trails, air conditioned indoor viewing, wide screen movie theater, Interactive Discovery Center, unique gift and rock shop, and Astronaut Memorial Park at the Visitor Center located on the crater rim.

About 4:45 pm, we arrived at the hotel that we going to stay for the rest of the night. This  hotel is just 15 minutes away from the Grand Canyon Park. After we checked in the hotel, we thought that we can just go the next day morning and see the sunrise because it’s raining and cloudy, that we might not see the sunset. Then suddenly my wife said, “Why don’t we just drive there? it’s fifteen minutes away and we are going out anyway to eat.” I said “Well, yeah that’s true.” So we took a chance hoping that we can see something and it’s not raining. Then I get my keys and headed to the Canyon. Before you reach the Canyon, you will enter at the Grand Canyon National Park. You will pay a $10 dollars fee that is good for seven days. Inside the park we saw some Buck alongside of the road, even thought we want to stop and took a picture, we can’t because we want to catch the sunset. It was 5:35pm we arrived at the Mather point, the closest point from the gate. We parked our car and headed to the point. There is no clouds and it’s not raining but we can still see the Canyon.

The Canyon was beautiful, stunning, and wonderful. Even though it’s almost dark, I can still say it’s beautiful. I don’t mind the coldness of my hand and chills in my lips from the air blowing in our face. The Canyon was really beautiful. We stayed there until it gets dark then we head back to our hotel. We ate dinner near the hotel and stayed up for a while before we go to sleep. The next day, we woke up and spent the whole day around the Canyon. We visited most the point and hike the easiest trail in there. I can the Grand Canyon is one of the places you don’t want to missed out. If you are living in United States or somewhere near in Arizona, visit Grand Canyon. It’s simply beautiful, stunning and wonderful.
