How To Get From Rome To Civitavecchia Port

Civitavecchia Port

We recently went on a 12 day Cruise to Italy and our cruise ship depart at Civitavecchia port. We spent two in days in Rome before we headed to Civitavecchia. One of our problem is how to get there cheap and fast, so we decided to write this blog and give you tips on how to get from Rome to Civitavecchia Port.

There are 2 options on how to get to Civitavecchia port from Rome City. If you’re coming from the airport, you can read my other blog about how to get from Fiumicino to Rome. Or watch my video on YouTube.

Rome To Civitavecchia Taxi

Taxi In Rome

So your first option is to take a taxi. From your Hotel, just go outside and call the taxi or you can download the MyTaxi App and do it from there. Note that Rome has no Rideshare option like Uber or Lyft so a taxi is your best option. The travel time would be 50mins to 1 hour depending on the traffic and also depends on what part of Rome you coming from.

My Taxi App

Pros: Riding a taxi going to Civitavecchia port is convenient and easy. It’s good if you have a group of 3 to 4 people then you can just split the cost.

Cons: There is a high potential that you might get ripped off. I’m not saying everyone, but some taxi drivers like to bump the prices when they know that you’re a tourist, especially if you do not speak their language.

Cost: 100 to 200 Euros

Rome To Civitavecchia Train

Rome To Civitavecchia Train

The second option is to ride a train. This will save a lot of money comparing to ride a taxi. Riding a train in Italy is the common transportation used by the locals to get from different cities. This is your best option if you really don’t want to spend that much on the taxi. You can buy tickets ahead of time by visiting their website (Trenitalia) or in the station.

Pros: You will save a lot of money and avoid getting ripped off by taxi drivers.

Cons: If you have a lot of luggage or big bags, it might get a little difficult to carry because you have to climb up the stairs to go to the train stations. Some stations like Roma S. Pietro Station doesn’t have an elevator. Also when you are on a train, there was not a lot of room for luggage. So if it’s crowded and you have luggage, it’s very difficult to ride that train.

Cost: The cost of riding a train is only 4 euro, that is from Roma S. Pietro Station to Civitavecchia Station. Then add 2 euro for the Bus or you can just walk half a mile to the port.

Conclusion

There are many train stations in Rome, so depending on where you staying, just determine the closest to your hotel. For us, as I mentioned earlier, our closest to our hotel is Roma S. Pietro Station, so we just ride a taxi going to that station and ask the taxi how much he will charge if he drop us off to Civitavecchia port. We didn’t really like the price that’s why we ask him to drop us off to the train station.

There you have it. We hope you learned something from us and if you have any questions and suggestion, please comment below and don’t forget to connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
